ABOUT DESIGN YOUR ESCAPE
From Escape Game Player to Game Designer
Design Your Escape by WorkcationKate was founded by Kate Deng, a game designer and recognised interior designer in Singapore.
What began as an experiment at home has grown into public adventures and custom puzzle games built around real places.

WHERE IT STARTED
It Began at Home
When I began making escape games, I was not planning to start a company. I simply wanted to see whether I could turn my own home into an escape game playground.

I tested story ideas, clue sequences and puzzle logic with a group of avid players. Their honest feedback showed me which clues felt rewarding, which were unclear and where the story lost momentum.

A good puzzle should feel fair, belong to the story and create a satisfying moment when the answer clicks.

LEARNING THROUGH PLAY
Across Four Countries
Together, our group has explored more than 55 escape games across Singapore, Malaysia, Japan and China.

Every game taught us something about setting, pacing and the small details that create a memorable “aha!” moment.

I still design from the player’s point of view. I create the storyline, game logic, puzzles and player journey, then test and refine each stage.

THE TURNING POINT
From a Side Hobby to Public Adventures
What began as a hobby grew into small team-building games for companies. I later opened selected experiences to the public through Eventbrite.

As an interior designer, I understood why traditional escape rooms can be costly to create and operate. A dedicated venue requires rent, renovation, staff and maintenance. Those costs affect ticket prices, group requirements and opening hours.

This led me to ask a different question:
Could an existing place become the game itself?

THE IDEA AT THE HEART OF THE BRAND
Turning Real Places Into Playable Stories
A friend already had a beautiful showroom. I designed a game around it, allowing players to discover the real environment through a story instead of entering a room built only for a game.

For Players
Discover interesting places through more affordable, story driven games without blacked out rooms or jump scares.
For Retailers
Use an existing space during quieter periods and help visitors notice details, products and stories they might otherwise miss.

A DESIGNER BEFORE THE FIRST CLUE
Space Has Always Been Part of the Story
Before creating games, I spent more than a decade designing interiors and building a Singapore design business.

That experience still shapes how I create games. Interior design taught me how people move through a space, where their attention goes and how small details affect what they feel.

Both interior design and game design begin with someone entering a space and discovering what happens next.

WHAT COMES NEXT
Still Learning From Every Player
My earlier games often leaned towards harder puzzles because that is what my own group enjoys. Public feedback showed me that players arrive with different levels of experience.

I am now creating more casual games that remain rewarding to solve, with clearer guidance, more puzzle styles and choices that may lead teams towards different endings.
